Halogen lamps
Halogen lamps also go by the names tungsten-halogen lamps
and quartz-halogen lamps. These lamps have a tungsten filament that
is sealed into a small space that is filled with a halogen gas (like
bromine or iodine). Halogen lamps have longer lifetimes than incandescent
lamps. They have a whiter color of light, too, as well as more brightness.
Halogen lamps are often used as desk lamps and reading lamps because
they offer such excellent and bright task lighting. Your basic halogen
lamps will last around 2000 hours, and this length of time is twice
as long as your ordinary incandescent lamp can run. Do not touch the
bulb of your quartz-halogen lamp because the grease on your finger can
cause damage to the quartz envelope, and the lamp will not stay as bright
for as long.
